What is a roaming band?
A roaming band is a group of professional musicians who perform completely unplugged without the need for microphones, cables and a PA system. Without the restrictions that cables bring, mobile musicians can roam free across the venue, entertaining small groups of guests for a more personalised and intimate performance.
Roaming bands are also regularly referred to as acoustic wandering bands, roving musicians, strolling bands, roaming covers bands/party bands and mobile bands.
What type of music do roaming bands play?
Roaming bands come in many forms, but the most popular is a roaming acoustic band performing a broad range of contemporary music. Your band's setlist might include modern pop, soul, indie, folk, live-lounge style acoustic covers and classics from the 60s onwards.
If you're looking for a high-energy party band to keep your guests entertained, you might also consider a Mariachi band, New Orleans jazz band, brass band or a Bavarian Oompah Band.
What type of events can I hire a roaming band for?
A strolling band is perfect for just about any event where you're looking for lively entertainment. Our roaming function bands are available to hire for any of the following:

When do Roaming bands usually perform?

If you're looking to hire a roaming wedding band, we recommend the afternoon drinks reception as the ideal time to start. With their quick set-up and ability to re-locate at any time, the band are free to entertain guests in every corner of the venue.
Our roaming musicians also make the ideal evening wedding band, offering the option to add a PA system, lighting and DJ service for a lively evening performance that will keep your guests dancing into the night.

The price of a roaming band varies considerably depending on the style of the band and the number of musicians. As a general guide, you can expect to pay anything from £500-£750 for an acoustic duo, to £1200 and above for a 4-piece wedding band.
Other factors that may affect your quote include travel time, travel expense, and the length of time they'll be with you at the venue.
How long does it take a Roaming band to set up?
One huge benefit of booking a roaming band is that the set up is super-quick and stress-free. In most cases, they'll be no amplified music whatsoever and so the only thing they'll need to do is tune up their instruments. As there's no soundcheck required, you can expect your wandering band to be ready to go in less than 15 minutes!
How long do Roaming bands play for?
The average performance time for a roaming band is about 2 hours with a short break, similar to most function/wedding bands. This can be adjusted to suit your requirements, for example, if you'd like the band to perform wedding music during the ceremony and the drinks reception.
Can a Roaming band play outside?
Absolutely! With no need for a power supply or bulky equipment, a roaming band is ideal for outside drinks receptions and garden parties. You'll need to ensure there's cover available to protect the band from the elements, just in case the weather takes a turn for the worst.
